Complaint to Insurance Company

April 2008

I complained to my insurance company about their approval of my unnecessary surgeries. It was explained to me that, in the state of Ohio, insurance companies are not required to authorize outpatient surgeries. I researched this issue, and found that a Prior Authorization is required, but the only information the surgeon has to give is the date of surgery, surgeon and facility, diagnosis, procedure planned, and anticipated discharge needs. No justification for the surgery needs to be made. Ohio would not want to stand in the way of business. There are tax dollars to be made. Amputating healthy body parts, in outpatient surgery centers, is a lucrative business.
