On this page, I discuss interventions that helped me following a turbinate reduction. Each is something individuals are free to make decisions about. Nothing requires a prescription.

I am not a doctor. Neither do these products and practices have the potential to harm you as much as a turbinate reduction.

Accuptressure:: Accupressure can be self-applied. Two excellent books that illustrate techniques are Zone Therapy and Shiatzu: Japanese Pressure Point Massage, both by Anika Bergson and Vladimir Tuchak. Accupressure is helpful in relieving pain. Both books can be purchased used at

Alpha Lipoic Acid: an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, is both fat and water soluble. I use Alpha Lipoic Acid as a supplement for both healing of my body and improvement of my skin. The amount I have found referenced for healing is 600 mg. a day. This excellent site covers dosage and other information: The best price I have found is at Puritan’s

Bromelain: is a mixture of protein-digesting (proteolytic) enzymes found in pineapples (Ananas comosus ). Pineapple has been used for centuries in Central and South America to treat indigestion and reduce inflammation. Bromelain, which is derived from the stem and juice of the pineapple, was first isolated from the pineapple plant in the late 1800s. It is approved by the German Commission E to treat swelling and inflammation following surgery, particularly sinus surgery. Bromelain can be purchased at Puritan’s Pride.

Apple cider Vinegar: An excellent anti-inflammatory and internal cleanser. It seems to support healing of all kinds. Buy the organic variety with “the mother,” the living culture, within it, at health food stores or in the organic section of supermarkets. You can prepare a drink to suit your taste. I put about a tablespoon in a large glass of sparkling water, over ice. It tastes like beer or ginger ale.

Chamomile: tea is a mild sedative and sleep aid. Organic chamomile can be purchased at Mountain Rose Herbs in bulk. It can be purchased in tea bag form in supermarkets and health food stores.

Glucosmine/Chondroitin/MSM: Loss of turbinate tissue, a moisture-producing organ, creates dryness throughout the body. I went from no arthritis pain to excruciating pain in numerous joints the first week following the destructive surgery. I use the triple-strength formula from Puritan’s Pride. I know it works because I have tried going without it.

Grapseed Extract: “Laboratory studies have shown that grape seed contains antioxidants-substances that prevent cell damage caused by free radicals, which are highly reactive molecules that can damage cell function.” I take 100 mg/day. It can be purchased at Puritan’s Pride.

MSM: “This natural sulfonyl sulfur compound, once called “Factor N” (for returning cells to Normal), forms the flexible bond between protein amino acid chains.  It builds and maintains supple, permeable collagen cell walls in flesh tissues, using Vitamin C for tissue cell formation.”  Much more about MSM can be found at this site: It can be purchased most inexpensively at Puritan’s Pride.

Oil Pulling: This is an Ayurvedic practice: “In the morning before breakfast on an empty stomach you take one tablespoon in the mouth but do not swallow it. Move Oil Slowly in the mouth as rinsing or swishing and Dr Karach puts it as ‘ sip, suck and pull through the teeth’ for fifteen to twenty minutes. This process makes oil thoroughly mixed with saliva. Swishing activates the enzymes and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. The oil must not be swallowed, for it has become toxic. As the process continues, the oil gets thinner and white. If the oil is still yellow, it has not been pulled long enough. It is then spit from the mouth , the oral cavity must be thoroughly rinsed and mouth must be washed thoroughly. Just use normal tap water and good old fingers to clean.

Clean the sink properly, you can use some antibacterial soap to clean the sink. Because the spittle contains harmful bacteria and toxic bodily waste. If one were to see one drop of this liquid magnified 600 times under a microscope, one would see microbes in their first stage of development.

It is important to understand that during the oil-pulling/swishing process one’s metabolism is intensified. This leads to improved health. One of the most striking results of this process is the fastening of loose teeth, the elimination of bleeding gums and the visible whitening of the teeth

The oil pulling /swishing is done best before breakfast. To accelerate the healing process, it can be repeated three times a day, but always before meals on an empty stomach. For STEP BY STEP Approach Click here:”

I use organic sesame seed oil. I rinse my mouth with warm salt water, after spitting out the oil, then brush my teeth. In addition to the above-mentioned benefits, I feel it slightly moisturizes my nose.

Omega 3 Fish Oil: “Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly EPA, have a very positive effect on your inflammatory response. Through several mechanisms, they regulate your body’s inflammation cycle, which prevents and relieves painful conditions like arthritis, prostatitis, cystitis and anything else ending in “itis.” This is the highest quality source for the most reasonable cost. My doctor recommended this brand and source: I take four teaspoons a day.

Reservatrol: “Besides the anti-aging effects, reservatrol has also been shown to increase activity and endurance in aging mice. It is thought that this might be because reservatrol stimulates an enzyme called SIRT1 which helps to spur the growth of new mitochondria in cells. (Mitochondria are the organelles of a cell that convert fuel to energy).” Reservatrol is avaialable at Puritan’s Pride.

Serrapeptase: “Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme isolated from the micro-organism Serratia E15. This enzyme is naturally processed commercially today through fermentation and was discovered in the silkworm intestine. This immunologically active enzyme is completely bound to the alpha 2 macroglobulin in biological fluids. Histological studies reveal powerful anti-inflammatory effects of this naturally occurring enzyme.

Serrapeptase digests non-living tissue, blood clots, cysts, and arterial plaque and inflammation in all forms. The late German physician, Dr. Hans Nieper, used Serrapeptase to treat arterial blockage in his coronary patients. Serrapeptase protects against stroke and is reportedly more effective and quicker than EDTA Chelation treatments in removing arterial plaque. He also reports that Serrapeptase dissolves blood clots and causes varicose veins to shrink or diminish. Dr. Nieper told of a woman scheduled for hand amputation and a man scheduled for bypass surgery who both recovered quickly without surgery after treatment with Serrapeptase.”

Serrapeptase can be purchased at Puritan’s Pride.

Vitamins and Minerals: I see an Integrative Medicine doctor (MD), who has prescribed an anti-inflammatory diet. This diet includes high dose vitamins and minerals, grapeseed extract and fish oil. It was prescribed for me so I cannot suggest dosages, but the diet includes vitamins A, B-100, C, D, Calcium, Magnesium Oxide, and a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement. Unless prescribed by a doctor, do not exceed RDA’s (recommended daily allowances). Good quality, low-cost vitamins can be ordered through Puritan’s Pride.

The nutrient content of foods can be researched at

For anti-inflammatory effects, you want a higher balance of Omega 3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) to Omega 6 fatty acids. See Omega 3 Fish Oil (above).

Yoga: I have done a short (five-minute) yoga routine daily for thirty years, adapted from the classic, Richard Hittleman’s Yoga: 28 Day Exercise Plan. In my view, there is nothing better than yoga for the health of mind and body.  The book is available new and used at

One Response to “General”

  1. Dollar general vapor rub is great for dry nose. The benzodiazacane numbs tissue, relieving sense of dryness. I find brand name vapor rub too strong. Rub generously inside nostrils , especially berfore bed. pack w/ kleenex if needed.
