First Stem Cell Therapy for ENS Performed Today

The first stem call injection therapy for Empty Nose Syndrome in the United States was performed today. The procedure was performed by Dr. Subinoy Das of the U.S. Institute for Advanced Sinus Care and Research in Columbus, Ohio. The patient had this to say about his experience:

Hello Everyone, I just left Dr. Das office. He performed the stem cell, acell and prp procedure this morning. Everything went well and their were no hiccups. He first drew some blood for the prp. Then I was laid down on my stomach with a gown on and they sterilized the love handle area for harvesting. He injected the numbing solution and waited for about fifteen minutes. Then he performed liposuction on one side. The lipo took about 15 to 20 minutes. I did not feel any pain. I felt some pressure where he was going back and forth with canula. He then lightly centrifuged the fat and mixed it with the acell and prp. He obtained about 8 ml of fat total. He then injected into both turbinates bilaterally. He went directly through the head along side the turbinate bone. He would inject whlle withdrawing the needle so the solution would go the entire length of the remaining turbinate. Then he injected both sides of my septum. Injecting the septum was a bit more painful but not bad. He said i may feel better initially but will likely have a setback but then in about 30 days start to hopefully feel better as the stem cells work there magic. Thank you Dr Das, Barb and Melanie for making it a smooth process and providing me hope.

  1. Just wondering if theres any update on the results of this stem cell therapy? Has it shown to ease the shortness of breath symptoms?
    Thanks
    David

  2. Do you have an update on this? Last post was in Feb 2016!

  3. It’s probably too late anyway. I’m 60 [actually surprised I’m still alive], Had surgery in 1994. Been hell ever since. Psych meds, blood pressure meds, tinnitus, loss of vision [reading glasses], all developed after surgery. Suicidal thoughts are always on my mind. Never thought about it before surgery. The real John Deal died in Nov 11, 1994. I mourn his loss w/every disrupted breath.

    • I’m so sorry, John, but you could possibly still get your breath back–if this works. The ENS patient is a friend of mine . There is also going to be a trial of 4 more ENS people in March. I will eventually update about results.

  4. Can u send me massage in Hebrew if there is some thing to do for empty nose sindrom.,thanks

  5. He accepts no insurance at all as this is considered experimental–I’m guessing. You will have to call his office to learn about costs. Many ENS people have started gofundme pages to pay for his treatment.

  6. How much is the procedure? Do they accept Medicare and Medicaid?
